The GMB Nottingham Panthers are pleased to announce the impending arrival of big defenceman Phil Oreskovic.

The 26-year-old Canadian is six feet three and 245lbs and was drafted in the third round by Toronto (82nd overall) in 2005.

He played for the Leafs ten times in the show and has also iced in the AHL (216 games) with Toronto and Hershey as well as in the East Coast League (147 games) at South Carolina and Toledo (where he started this season).

A club spokeswoman said today : “We’re anticipating some potential roster changes and we’ve still got some injuries at the back as well so we’re getting our ducks in line. Phil’s flights are booked and most of the paperwork is already in place. Compared to our last two signings which were started and finished in less than 24 hours this one’s going to be spread over a couple of days so by our recent standards it has been quite leisurely! We are hopeful of getting him into the line-up to debut at home to Hull on Sunday.”

Head coach Corey Neilson said : “He’s big and strong and a solid defenceman. He’s been on my radar for a few seasons so it is another case of finally getting my man. He’s not afraid to mix it up for his team mates either, in fact his fight card includes a tilt with Brent Henley along the way. I asked Hens about him and he said he’s a good player and a big bear of a man.”

Phil Oreskovic added : “I’m looking forward to joining the Panthers’ organisation. I had a call and things moved very quickly from there. I’m packed and on my way and looking forward to seeing the fans at the game on Sunday.”

Panthers v Hull Stingrays, Sunday Jan 26th Capital FM Arena at 4pm. Good seats are still available.
