GMB Panthers sign big Canadian winger LEIGH SALTERS
The GMB Panthers have added 24-year-old Canadian winger Leigh Salters to the squad for the upcoming Elite League season.
The six feet four inch winger played in the East Coast Hockey League last season and at the AHL level.
Two years before that he had a full season in the AHL at Syracuse before joining Florida in the Coast.
Salters has a reputation for looking after his team mates (he had 111 penalty minutes at Syracuse and 110 the following year at Florida) but last season he also had 36 points with the Everglades including 16 goals.
He says he’s heard a lot of good things about Nottingham and can’t wait to get on the ice with his new team mates.
Head coach Corey Neilson, himself a former Florida player said of his new signing: “Panthers had a reputation for team toughness last year and Leigh fits that mould and ticks other boxes too. He’s a big strong winger and he will be a handful when he bears down on opposing defences around the Elite League.
“He is a top six ECHL forward, he will be a quality impact forward and we’re pleased to get him, we’ve had great reports on what he can do.”
We caught up with coach Corey Neilson whilst he was at a junior hockey tournament in Telford over the weekend and recorded an exclusive update for Panthers Radio in association with Xynomix.
