Match Report

GMB Panthers just about edged an entertaining end to end first period thanks to the only power play of the session which the visitors just managed to kill off.

In the middle period, Nottingham threw the puck from left wing to right wing for a shot by Billingsley that forced a rebound and Yann Sauve was there to stuff home the rebound to open the scoring at 33.12.

But the lead lasted just two and a half minutes as Mountfield, on a power play, pulled off some sweet passes to get the puck to the front of the net to equalise with the man advantage.

With 13.57 to go in the game, Jeff Brown got the puck to David Clarke and the assistant coach did what he does best - fired home to put Nottingham up 2-1.

Next shift, Panthers carved them open and 77 seconds after taking the lead, Nottingham were on Sunset Strip when Ollie Betteridge and then a patient Raphael Bussieres bided their time and teed it up for the advancing Evan Mosey to double the lead.

A big kill on a Mountfield power play followed, but soon after they took it round the back of the Panthers' net and slid the puck to the far post to slip home and reduce the deficit back to a single goal.

And the visitors got a power play opportunity to equalise which they took 35 seconds into the man advantage at 52.47.

A Panthers power play saw the refs backed up by video review rule out a Nottingham attempt for not crossing the line and the scores remained tied to the end of sixty minutes, meaning Nottingham became the first British team ever to take points from two different games in the same season of Champions Hockey League action.

Just nine seconds into sudden death three on three overtime and Yann Sauve nailed the five hole to make that record the first team to win two games in the CHL in the same season.
