COREY NEILSON TO LEAD THE TEAM THROUGH NEXT SEASON
COREY'S BACK NEXT YEAR!
The GMB Nottingham Panthers are pleased to announce that coach Corey Neilson is staying at the club for at least another year.
Corey took over the coaching reins this season and has had a big impact on the team.
His re-appointment for next season was one of the easiest decisions in recent times.
Chairman Neil Black said today: “Corey has a wealth of playing experience and is one of the best players in the league. He has shown his capabilities in the role of player-coach already and he will get better and better.
“It is a tough job but it is arguably the best job in British ice hockey. I’m thrilled to say he’s staying with us and he can add making plans for next season to his list of responsibilities.”
Added Corey Neilson: “I love this job, it is a great organisation, we’re a tight knit crew, we all know what we want to achieve and we all go about it in a professional way. Sure there are things to learn, there always will be in every walk of life, but this is the top job in the UK. It is no wonder other teams are envious of what we do on and off the ice.
“I’m proud to play for the Nottingham Panthers, I’m proud to coach the Nottingham Panthers and I’m proud to be a part of such a great organisation. It’s a wonderful place to be.”
Corey Neilson and his coaching staff have an immediate puzzle to solve with the return of top forward Johan Molin from injury. He may not be ready for action this weekend – a final decision has yet to be made - but whenever he does return to the line-up someone will have to make room for him, the rules only allow for ten so-called ‘imports’, and the GMB Panthers have ten in their playing line-up plus Molin and Rumun Ndur who have been injured.
Said Corey: “Other teams have to go short-handed when injuries strike, but we’ve been fortunate in that we’ve been able to bring in players and evaluate their contributions and those of the others at the same time while we have been waiting for guys to heal. With the signing deadline coming up and guys getting back to fitness there are some big decisions to be made sooner rather than later.”
