Belfast now a grudge match for players

Panthers media caught up with Jeff Dimmen and Alex Nikiforuk as they were finishing practice today. They were looking ahead to Nottingham’s return to EIHL action with two home games this weekend. Belfast visit for the third time this season on Friday in a bit of a grudge match according to the players. Alex Nikiforuk told Panthers Radio with Xynomix that the Panthers owe Belfast one: “they have taken two form us here at home and that is unacceptable at our standard.” Jeff Dimmen, talking to Panthers TV with the GMB, think it’s really important to kickstart the EIHL campaign with two home games: “our crowd always gives us a big boost at home, we’re looking to get back into it. “You’ve got to win games at home, and they’ve come here twice and won two in our barn so this game is huge.” The Panthers have been successful in the Challenge Cup and Continental Cup so far this season and Alex wants to see that carry through into the League games. Nikiforuk said “No matter what game it is, we’re giving it our all, playing our best… we have two important games this weekend, all our focus is on that.” When it comes to the games, Alex felt that the distances travelled by both teams could be key, saying “We have Belfast on the Friday, they are travelling a long way so we have to get on them early. Then Fife, we have to jump on them too. “We’re real excited about the weekend, we want to come out and get some points and build off of last weekend.” Last weekend was the Panthers trip to Odense where they won 2 of 3 games in the Continental Cup. Those results saw them be the first British team to progress to the Super Final since 2009-10 and Dimmen was delighted to help break that draught: “it feels pretty good; it was a tough weekend, a 3 in 3, and we didn’t have a lot of bodies but we got a couple of wins. “Hopefully we can host the final here and make a run at the title.” Tickets are available through 0843 373 3000 to book, or you can visit the box office open now until face-off.
