CHL Seedings Announced

Seedings for the upcoming Champions Hockey League have been released. The Nottingham Panthers have been seeded 32nd for the 2017/18 Champions Hockey League, placing us in Pot 4 for the Group Stage Draw on May 17th. As expected having qualified as Continental Cup champions, the GMB Panthers are ranked at the bottom of the seedings for the upcoming CHL comp People should remember Panthers were the lowest ranked team at the Continental Cup Super-Final and qualified for the CHL when we became the first ever British winner of the cup. The Cardiff Devils also received their seeding and sit at 29th with last season’s winners, Frölunda Göteborg, earning the coveted number one spot. DRAW RULES • There will be four pots with 8 teams each. • Pot 1: Teams ranked 1-8 | Pot 2: Teams ranked 9-16 | Pot 3: Teams ranked 17-24 | Pot 4: Teams ranked 25-32; the CHL ranking tool applies. • The Draw will provide 8 groups of four teams each. • Clubs from the same league cannot be drawn into the same group • Software will help us detect any potential conflict. Should such a conflict occur then the software will determine the next possible group available. The club in question will then be placed into this available group. CHL ranking tool criteria: A) National League Champion, B) Regular season winners, C) Regular season runner-up, D) Losing playoff-finalist, E) Higher regular season ranked losing semi-finalist, F) Lower regular season ranked losing semi-finalist, G) Third placed team in regular season 2017/18 PLAYING FORMAT The Group Stage starts on 24th August and finishes on 11th October. The 32 teams are divided into eight groups of four and each team plays six games – one home and one away against the other three teams in its group. The first and second placed teams in each group then advance to the Playoff Stage. The playoffs then begin on 31st October with the round of 16, quarter finals and semifinals all two-game, home-and-away, aggregate-scoring series. The Final is then a one-off game scheduled to take place on 6th February 2018.
