GMB Panthers' Champions League fixtures announced
The Champions Hockey League has released its schedule for the 2017/18 Group Stage. In all, 96 games will be played between 24 August and 11 October, with teams battling for spots in the playoff phase. Panthers earned their place in the upcoming season by winning the Continental Cup, the first British team ever to do so and our CHL campaign has the toughest of starts with an away game at Bern in Switzerland against the fourth ranked team in the tournament in their massive arena (pictured above) before moving on to the Czech Republic for game two. Panthers then have three home fixtures in a row before travelling to face the Finnish team in their group. Panthers' schedule: Thursday, 24 August 19:45 F SC Bern – Nottingham Panthers Saturday, 26 August 18:00 F Mountfield HK – Nottingham Panthers Thursday, 31 August 19:00 F Nottingham Panthers – Mountfield HK Saturday, 2 September 19:00 F Nottingham Panthers – SC Bern (20:00 CEST) Tuesday, 3 October 19:00 F Nottingham Panthers – TPS Turku (20:00 CEST) Tuesday, 10 October 19:00 F TPS Turku – Nottingham Panthers (18:00 CEST) Thirty-two teams qualified for the first time on pure sporting merits for the 2017/18 Champions Hockey League season. The teams are divided into eight groups of four and each team plays six games – one home and one away against the other three teams in its group. The first and second placed teams in each group then advance to the Playoff Stage. On opening night many eyes will be on Frölunda Gothenburg's first home game as the reigning champions welcome former Champions Hockey League winners ZSC Lions Zurich in a very early season “clash of the titans“. It will be the first time that two CHL champions have faced each other. Zurich won the only title in the previous edition of the Champions Hockey League back in 2008/2009.
