Panthers home season opens against Cardiff– FIXTURES RELEASED

The GMB Nottingham Panthers 2016-17 domestic campaign will begin with the defence of the Challenge Cup starting in Coventry on Sunday September 4th. Then after a weekend in Scotland, Panthers will be in home ice action against Cardiff on Saturday September 17th for a game that will count for cup AND league points. The first clash of the year between the biggest of rivals – Nottingham and Sheffield – is in Nottingham in the cup on Saturday September 24th With a potential three weekends of action in Europe in the Continental Cup to fit in everyone at the Panthers is happy with the way the fixture list has worked out. Player-assistant coach David Clarke said : “This can’t have been easy but we’ve got a balanced schedule from start to finish with some gaps for the Europe trips and some mid-week opportunities to take advantage of if, as we hope, we progress in the Challenge Cup. It’s good.” Christmas will be the usual hive of activity starting with a home game against Dundee on Friday December 23rd, the annual trip to Sheffield on Boxing Day followed 24 hours later by the visit of the Steelers to Nottingham for Christmas Tuesday action. There’s a trip to Coventry on the Thursday followed by New Year’s Eve afternoon action against the Blaze and then the Hogmanay visit by Edinburgh on Bank Holiday Monday, January 2nd. Panthers will be on the road in Belfast at the end of the campaign on the weekend of March 10th, a road trip in Scotland is on the schedule a week later and then the league programme wraps up with Sheffield at home (Saturday March 25th) and a trip to Manchester on Sunday March 26th. The Play Off quarter-final round is on the weekend of April 1st and 2nd and the Play Offs Finals weekend is in Nottingham on the weekend of April 8th and 9th. The whole season faces off with the visit of Braehead to Nottingham on Saturday August 20th for the Aladdin Cup, Panthers travel to Coventry for exhibition action on Wednesday August 24th and then to France for the Napoleon Cup on the weekend of August 26th. Head coach Corey Neilson said: ”It’s a good looking camp to get us ready for the league and cup action and then the schedule looks very good too.
