The Nottingham Panthers
The Nottingham Panthers travelled to Dundee for the final times this season to take on the Stars in the first game of a back-to-back-to-back north of the border this weekend.
Michael Garnett got the start in goal for the Panthers opposite Pontus Sjogren for the Stars.
Nottingham came out of the blocks hot to begin the first period, Tommy Hughes rattling the iron with a one-timer from the blueline.after a face-off win by Mark Hurtubise. Garnett made his first save of the game when he denied Fabrizio Ricci in front when the Stars' forward snuck behind the Panthers' defence.
After killing a penalty to Justin Kovacs the Panthers took the lead when Steve Lee found a streaking Alex Guptill, who toe dragged through his defenceman before firing low past Sjogren (11.56).
It took the Stars less than three minutes to tie things up. Lukas Lundvald deflecting Dryden Dow's shot from the point into the goal of Michael Garnett (14.40).Just 33 seconds later the Panthers were back in the lead, Alex Bolduc and Ollie Betteridge combining on a two-on-one breakaway where the GB forward put home his own rebound (15.13).
Nottingham killed off 39 seconds of a five-on-three Stars' powerplay to close out the first 20 minutes with the lead in tact.
The Panthers killed off the five-on-three powerplay to begin the second period and when the Panthers returned to full strength they found themselves on the attack, Luke Pither denied when he broke in on Sjogren's goal.
Garnett had to be alert as Jordan Cownie attempted a wraparound before Kevin Henderson fired just over the goal of Sjogren after a nice feed from Jon Rheault.
Dundee tied the game at two when Craig Garrigan (29.19) broke in down the right wing and fired across Garnett but the Panthers again responded quickly, Alex Guptill scoring his second of the night (29.53) as he hammered home a backhand effort from the slot.
The Stars tied the game as the second period wound down, Craig Garrigan getting his second of the night (37.23) tucking away a rebound at the top of the crease.
Josh Tetlow was called for hooking (38.56) as he attempted to stop a Stars' breakaway, the home side couldn't capitalise on the truncated man advantage though and the period ended with the teams deadlocked at three apiece.
Nottingham killed the remainder of Tetlow's penalty and Sjogren had to be alert to deal with Hurtubise's effort from the right face-off circle. Sjogren had to be at the top of his game again when Richard found himself all alone in front of the Stars' netminder but he couldn't find a way through.
The Panthers thought they'd taken the lead after a mad scramble in front of the Stars' goal (51.44) but after a lengthy review it was deemed the puck did not cross the goal line.
Taking momentum from the no goal call the Stars took the lead through Brian Hart (52.36). The forward showing great patience before shooting through traffic into the back of Garnett's goal.
Nottingham pressed for an equaliser, pulling netminder Michael Garnett in favour of the extra attacker in the process, but couldn't find a fourth goal and the Stars skated out with the two Elite League points.
