Panthers vs Devils: Saturday!
The Nottingham Panthers head into their PredictorBet Playoff Semi-Final against the Cardiff Devils, Saturday at 5.00pm, as the underdogs at the EIHL's showcase weekend.
Billed as the away team, and using the away team bench, the Panthers will have to reverse the course of the regular season series between the two sides if they’re to reach the grand final on Sunday. Every game finished in favour of the home side by just one goal. Of course, Panthers are the “away” team but the finals weekend is played IN Nottingham.
Interim Head Coach Rick Strachan has overseen a turnaround in the team’s fortunes, with many predicting in January that the Panthers wouldn't make the finals weekend or finish in the top half of the standings, that saw them go 5-3-2 in the stretch.
That run saw the Panthers book a date with the Fife Flyers in the PredictorBet Playoff Quarter-Finals and they came out on top 6-3 on aggregate, tying 3-3 in Kirkcaldy before winning 3-0 on home ice, to advance to the Finals weekend.
Should the Belfast Giants defeat the Guildford Flames in the early game, face-off 1.00pm, the Panthers will qualify for next seasons Continental Cup after their third place finish in the EIHL league standings, Cardiff and Belfast having already secured entry into the Champions Hockey League.
