ELITE LEAGUE: FLAMES 4-3 PANTHERS (OVERTIME)

ELITE LEAGUE: FLAMES 4-3 PANTHERS (OVERTIME)

The Nottingham Panthers came from behind three times but were beaten 4-3 at Guildford Flames after overtime in the Elite League on Saturday night.

Netminder Alex Dubeau and defenceman Craig Moore (both upper body) missed out through injury.

Stephen Anderson returned to the gameday roster while Mike Hammond and Tanner Sorenson were left out of the line-up.

Kelsall on target in 1-1 first period
Jeremy Welsh fired just wide inside the opening minute after great skills in the offensive zone, before Berry saved twice in succession from Ian McNulty as Flames went close to the opener.

Berry then denied Daniel Tedesco on a breakaway and moments later produced a fine stop on former Panther Robert Lachowicz from close range.

After a delay for a broken piece of plexi, the hosts went ahead through a fine top-shelf finish by Ryan Tait from the right circle (10:01).

Jack Hopkins did well to dig the puck out of the corner for Jordon Kelsall, who had a couple of attempts on the doorstep before prodding in Nottingham's equaliser (14:05).

Welychka and Welsh keep Panthers on level terms
There were four goals in a breathtaking second period with Panthers coming from behind each time.

Sam Marklund's rebound put Guildford ahead (27:57) before David Levin fed Brett Welychka to score at the backdoor on the powerplay just 26 seconds later (28:23).

Brett Ferguson set-up Kyle Locke to fire in the home side's third (32:52), while Archie Hazeldine's great pass started a Panthers rush which saw Levin denied twice from close range, but Jeremy Welsh was on hand for a third equaliser (36:10).

Marklund wins it in overtime after scoreless third period
In the third period, Levin hit the post on a penalty shot as Nottingham looked to go ahead for the first time, while Welsh and Luke Ferrara also went close.

Berry saved from Ben O'Connor on a Guildford powerplay and at the other end, Welychka and Adam Brady had chances short-handed.

The Flames secured the extra point in overtime - and a four-point weekend - as Marklund pushed home a rebound after Berry had saved Ferguson's initial shot.

Roadtrip to Sheffield followed by Manchester at home
Panthers return to action with back-to-back matches next weekend, starting with Saturday's trip to Sheffield Steelers (7pm face-off).

Nottingham then host Manchester Storm at the Motorpoint Arena on Sunday (4pm).
