The Nottingham Panthers had a spot of team bonding with a difference last week as they visited Axed Global in the Cornerhouse.

As you can imagine, competition was fierce between all the players, especially with it being early into training camp and everyone is getting to know each other still.

The players and staff were split into groups of five for the first part of the contest.

The opening game, called HIGH SCORE, saw 10 rounds of action with each player having three axes to throw towards a target.

AREA CONTROL was a bit like noughts and crosses but with a massive twist thrown in. The aim was to dominate the board by stealing your opponent's spot by landing on the same board space.

BATTLE AXE was the axe version of battleships. The Panthers players and staff had control of their targets, so the hardest spots could be chosen to test accuracy.

Game four was AXE ROYALE. In this game, the axe target kept shrinking and the target could move at the last moment which meant pinpoint accuracy was called for.

The leading contestants from each group - Mike Caruso, Luke Ferrara, Mathieu Gagnon, Tanner Sorenson and Kelly Summers - went through to an individual final.

It was Gagnon who came on top and understandably he was thrilled.

"It was a lot of fun and everyone enjoyed themselves," said Gagnon.

"It was great for team bonding and those things are really important in training camp.

"And yeh, of course I loved winning. I won't let the guys forget about it for a while."

The Panthers would like to thank the staff at Axed Global for their superb hospitality last week.
