Nottingham Panthers were beaten 4-3 by Sheffield Steelers at the Utilita Arena in their latest pre-season action.

Jack Berry made his first start for the Panthers while Matt Greenfield was in-between the pipes for the hosts.

Brady gives Panthers early lead
Just like last night, Panthers took the lead moments after the opening face-off as Mike Hammond fed Adam Brady in the slot after only 23 seconds.

Steelers had a powerplay goal by Scott Allen disallowed for a high stick with just over five minutes remaining of the first period.

Steelers turn it around in second period
Sheffield equalised with the man advantage early in session two through Daniel Ciampini's blast off the crossbar (20:36) while at the other end, Greenfield made a superb save from Tanner Sorenson.

The Panthers peppered shots on the Steelers goal on successive powerplays, but Sheffield went ahead through Matt Petgrave's rebound at 34:26.

Sheffield edge it after third-period thriller
Nottingham equalised when Mathieu Gagnon burst down the right wing and the defenceman cleverly combined with Hammond to set-up Stephen Anderson to score from close range (43:49).

Hammond was at the heart of Nottingham's go-ahead goal as his no-look pass set-up Brett Welychka to fire past Greenfield from the slot (52:31).

But Steelers hit straight back with two goals in 19 seconds to win the game as Sebastien Piché's one-timer on the powerplay (55:51) was followed by Robert Dowd's breakaway finish which deflected in off Berry (56:10).

Panthers thought they'd equalised through Hammond in the closing stages, but the goal was disallowed for the net off its morrings.

Pre-season action continues for Panthers on Wednesday when they travel to Coventry Blaze, before they return home to host Cardiff Devils in the Aladdin Cup on Saturday.
