Match Report

Nottingham Panthers produced an outstanding performance with a 5-0 victory on the road at Cardiff Devils to keep alive hopes of reaching the knockout stages of the Challenge Cup.

Kevin Carr secured his second successive shutout as turned away all 48 shots he faced, while there were five different names on the scoresheet on a memorable night in Wales.

Panthers were once again without Matt Alfaro and Chase Pearson. Carr started between the pipes with Jason Grande as back-up.

No goals in tight first period
Didrik Henbrant went close for the Panthers inside the opening 30 seconds and Christian Stoever made a big save to stop Brendan Harris from the slot.

At the other end, Carr denied Kristoff Kontos and Cole Sanford on a Cardiff powerplay and also had to be at his best to turn away Josh MacDonald's effort.

Henbrant goal gives Panthers the lead at second intermission
Panthers made a strong start to the second session as Josh Tetlow's shot from left-point was saved, while Nolan Volcan was unable to get to the rebound from close-range.

Kohen Olischefski hit the pipes and Carr made two saves quick in succession as Devils went close three times on the same shift.

Matt Marcinew won the puck on the right boards and fed Henbrant who put Panthers ahead (34:17), before Carr made a huge save to deny Ben Davies on a breakaway.

Panthers score four in third period as Carr secures shutout
After Bryan Lemos and Cooper Zech had chances, Tim Doherty made it 2-0 on the powerplay following a great give-and-go with Mitch Fossier who returned the pass to the slot (45:48).

Marcinew put away a rebound after good work by Fossier and Harris (51:38) and Fossier scored an empty-net goal with a pinpoint shot from his own zone (55:15).

There was still time for Fossier - who had a four-point night - to set-up Zsombor Garát to score on the powerplay in the closing stages (59:44).
