Match Report

Matt Marcinew scored the overtime winner as Nottingham Panthers beat Guildford Flames 2-1 at the Motorpoint Arena to stay top of the Elite League.

Kevin Carr started between the pipes with Luca Sheldon as back-up. Panthers continue to be without injured forwards Mitch Fossier and Brendan Harris.

Dominant Panthers first period but no goals
Panthers outshot the Flames 18-5 in the first period with Bryan Lemos hitting the underside of the bar and Ollie Betteridge the base of the right-hand post.

Chase Pearson, David Noël, Finlay Ulrick and Tim Doherty had shots saved by Taz Burman while at the other end, Carr denied Nick Seitz on a breakaway.

Flames lead at second intermission
Guildford had an early opportunity in the second session when Jamal Watson hit the base of the post.

Panthers continued to have chances with Noël, Didrik Henbrant, Cooper Zech and Jakob Stridsberg all going close.

But the Flames took the lead when a broken play saw the puck fall to Matt Alvaro who fired past Carr from the slot (37:03).

Doherty grabs third-period equaliser
Panthers equalised when a great feed from Ross Armour found Doherty who drove the backdoor to beat Burman (44:31).

Carr made a superb save to deny Tyler Busch from close-range to keep the scores level.

Marcinew scores overtime winner
Panthers secured the extra point with a great solo goal by Matt Marcinew with just over two minutes remaining.

Marcinew took the puck it from his own zone and then cut in off the left to fire top-shelf for the winner (62:47).
