Nottingham Panthers produced a superb performance to win 4-1 on the road at Cardiff Devils in the Elite League.
The victory saw third-placed Panthers close the gap on second-placed Cardiff to a point and Danny Stewart's side have a game in hand.
Panthers remained without the injured Mitch Fossier and Matt Marcinew while Jason Grande missed the game because of illness.
Jarod Hilderman came into the line-up to replace Johnny Curran as Panthers went with seven defencemen and 11 forwards.
Kevin Carr, who made 29 saves, started between the pipes with Luca Sheldon as back-up.
Zech gives Panthers first-period lead
Outstanding play by Chase Pearson set-up the first goal as he gained the zone and fed Cooper Zech in the right-circle (12:49).
Carr made huge close-range saves to deny Riley Brandt and Brett Perlini in quick succession, while Josh MacDonald shot wide with the goal gaping.
Doherty on target before Devils close the deficit
Zech shot just over early in the second period before Tim Doherty stole the puck off Brandon Estes in the slot and beat Ben Bowns to make it 2-0 to the Panthers (27:23).
Devils hit back quickly through Jimmy Oligny's shot from the high slot (29:45), while Carr made saves to stop Mark Richardson, Joey Martin and Josh MacDonald.
Two third-period goals secure vital two points
Panthers broke two-on-one and Henbrant fed Zech for his second of the night (48:15). Zech's momentum saw him collide with Bowns who had to be replaced by Christian Stoever.
Zech made it a three-point night when his shot was saved and Bryan Lemos was on hand to get to the rebound (50:35).
The end of the game was feisty with a number of fights and line brawls, which included Cardiff forward Sam Duggan being thrown out the game.
