Nottingham Panthers were beaten 4-2 by Sheffield Steelers at the Motorpoint Arena on Sunday night.

Jarod Hilderman replaced Zsombor Garát who picked up an injury on Saturday in Sheffield. Kevin Carr started between the pipes with Luca Sheldon as back-up.

Henbrant on target before Steelers hit back on powerplay
Panthers had chances on an early first-period powerplay with Matt Marcinew and David Noël seeing their shots saved by Eamon McAdam.

Danny Stewart's side went ahead when Noël set-up Didrik Henbrant who cut inside off the left-wing to beat McAdam through the five-hole (08:30).

Brendan Harris thought he'd scored short-handed but the puck rolled along the line to safety which was confirmed by a video review.

At the other end, Carr made good saves to deny Mitchell Balmas and Kevin Tansey but was beaten by Balmas from the left-circle on the powerplay (17:28).

Steelers lead after two periods
Nolan Volcan and Mitch Fossier had good chances for the Panthers early in the second period, but Steelers went ahead through Robert Dowd's shot from the left-circle (26:02).

Sheffield made it 3-1 on the powerplay as Brett Ritchie's pass towards net was cleverly redirected by Mikko Juusola with his skate into the path of Stephen Harper at the side of the crease (31:34).

Harris and Ross Armour set-up Tim Doherty who reduced the arrears with a great finish from the left-circle on the powerplay (37:04).

Steelers secure two points
Panthers piled on the pressure on two successive powerplays, including a spell of five-on-three, which twice saw Steelers clear after massive goalmouth scrambles.

Carr denied Ritchie on a penalty-shot with just under five minutes remaining, but the visitors wrapped the game up with an empty-net goal by Balmas (59:44).

Next up at the Motorpoint Arena
There's two away games for the Panthers next weekend with a double-header in Northern Ireland against Belfast Giants.

The next home action is on Wednesday 1st April (19:00 face-off) when Panthers face Manchester Storm at the Motorpoint Arena - a game sponsored by WAGO.
