Nottingham Panthers were beaten 6-1 at home by Belfast Giants in the Motorpoint Elite League on Friday night.
Tim Doherty returned from suspension but Matt Alfaro missed the game because of injury. Mat Robson started between the pipes with Kai Edmonds as back-up.
Giants lead at first intermission
Robson made a good save to deny Scott Conway within the opening 10 seconds and the Panthers netminder also denied David Goodwin and Jake Gaudet.
Zach O'Brien and Chase Pearson combined superbly to set-up Doherty who saw his shot from the doorstep stopped by Jake Kupsky.
Conway's neat move from close-range put the Giants ahead (14:31) which was the difference between the two sides at the first interval.
Panthers fight back before Belfast take control again
Spencer Naas, Ollie Betteridge and Pearson had chances for the Panthers in the early stages of the second session and Doherty hit the pipes.
A great move on the right-wing by Miikka Pitkänen set-up Joe Hazeldine in the slot who put away his own rebound after a superb initial save by Kupsky (26:03).
But Belfast stunned the Panthers with two goals in 37 seconds as Conway fed JJ Piccinich in the left-circle (34:30) and Logan Cockerill scored after relentless play by the Giants forced a turnover (35:07).
The visitors made it 4-1 when Jake Gaudet redirected Ty Prefontaine's shot past Robson (39:39).
Belfast ease to convincing victory
Giants netted on the powerplay early in the third period as a well-worked move saw Patrick Guay score from close-range (42:47).
Pitkänen was denied on the doorstep as Panthers searched for a way back into the game and Kupsky shut the door to stop Ben Corbeil on a short-handed breakaway.
Belfast saw out the game with ease and added a sixth when a deflected puck fell to Conway to score from the top of the crease for his second of the night (59:20).
