Nottingham Panthers went back to the top of the Elite League with a hard-fought 4-3 victory against Glasgow Clan at the Braehead Arena.
Panthers were at full-strength with Nolan Volcan and Jason Grande the healthy scratches. Kevin Carr started between the pipes and Luca Sheldon served as back-up.
Alfaro and Pearson on target in first period
In an end-to-end start, Carr made a save on Deven Sideroff after only 11 seconds and Panthers went close when Chase Pearson set-up Matt Marcinew inside the first minute.
Matt Alfaro put Panthers ahead with a one-timer after good work by Tim Doherty and Mitch Fossier (02:05), before Clan equalised when Richard JarΕ―šek went top-shelf from the slot on the powerplay (05:17).
Brendan Harris won the battle on the wall to free up Pearson who used skill and strength to burst through the Clan defence and go top-shelf for his 13th goal of the season (10:55) and at the other end, Carr made a huge close-range stop to deny Darien Kielb.
Garát ensures Panthers stay ahead at second intermission
Didrik Henbrant (twice), Cooper Zech and Alfaro all had chances as Panthers dominated the opening stages of the second period.
The hosts drew level again as Brayden Burke sent Sideroff on a partial breakway and he beat Carr through the five-hole (28:12).
David Noël, Zech and Henbrant all hit the pipes as the session came to a close and Panthers went ahead for a third time through Zsombor Garát's shot through traffic (38:17).
Fossier scores game-winner
JarΕ―šek had a powerplay goal disallowed for the Clan after the puck was deflected past Carr following movement with his glove.
There was a 30-minute delay because of a problem with the plexi and Clan bounced straight back after the restart as Burke fed Cade Neilson at the backdoor (45:50).
Panthers scored the game-winner with just over six minutes remaining following strong work by Alfaro who cut inside from the left to find Fossier to score with a neat wrist-shot from the left-circle (53:51).
