Nottingham Panthers were beaten 3-0 in Wales by Cardiff Devils in the final pre-season road game on Friday night as Great Britain netminder Ben Bowns secured a 25-shot shutout.

Kevin Carr started between the pipes with Luca Sheldon as back-up, while forward Nolan Volcan made his Panthers debut after arriving in the UK on Wednesday.

Captain Matt Alfaro remains out of action following his post-season operation and forward Mitch Fossier was rested as a precaution.

Devils lead after entertaining first period
Panthers started well with early chances for Matt Spencer, Matt Marcinew and David Noël while at the other end, Carr made stops to deny Josh MacDonald, Gleason Fournier and Brett Perlini.

In a feisty first period with some big hits, Panthers defenceman Josh Tetlow dropped the gloves and had the better of a fight with Cedric Lacroix.

The Devils went ahead with their best chance of the game so far when Bayley Harewood put home a rebound after a goalmouth scramble (15:39).

Chances both ends but Devils still lead
Marcinew had the first chance of the second session but his shot was saved by the glove of Bowns and Cooper Zech went close twice in quick succession.

GB international Ben Davies hit the bar short-handed for the Devils and Carr made two huge close-range saves on a five-on-three penalty-kill.

Cardiff secure win with two third-period goals
The hosts scored their second when Joey Martin used his speed and cut inside off the right-wing to beat Carr (44:00) who made a great save to deny Davies moments later.

Bowns showed his class in the closing stages as he denied Tim Doherty on the breakaway and also stopped Chase Pearson's shot from the left-circle.

With Carr lifted for the extra outskater, Cardiff wrapped the game up when former Panther Mark Richardson scored into the empty net from his own zone (59:42).
