Nottingham Panthers completed pre-season with a 4-1 victory over Coventry Blaze at the Motorpoint Arena on Saturday night.
Nolan Volcan made his home debut while seventeen-year-old Nottinghamshire-born forward Alex Rushby came back into the line-up on the fourth line.
Captain Matt Alfaro remains out of action as he continues his recovery from a post-season operation, while Mitch Fossier was again rested as a precaution.
Jason Grande started between the pipes with Luca Sheldon as back-up.
Marcinew on target in even first period
Grande made an early save to deny Elijiah Barriga on a Blaze two-on-one-break before Panthers took the lead with a goal of the highest quality.
Chase Pearson superbly fed Tim Doherty who supplied the perfect pass for Matt Marcinew to score from the right-circle (03:35).
Marcinew went close twice more before the Blaze equalised through Alessio Luciani's one-timer at the backdoor (15:09).
Two quick goals gives Panthers two-goal lead
Coventry made a strong start to the second period and Grande had to be at his best to turn away Matthew Gleason's shot.
Panthers ended the period with a two-goal lead thanks two more top-class team goals.
Drop passes by Bryan Lemos and Ross Armour set-up David Noël (34:13) and then Marcinew and Volcan combined for Zsombor Garát to fire top-shelf (38:53).
Betteridge seals win with late goal
Great skill by Brendan Harris saw him dance through the Coventry zone but shoot just wide.
At the other end, Grande made two huge saves in quick succession which included stopping Michael Pelech from point-blank range.
Volcan's feed sent Ollie Betteridge clear and the British international converted neatly on the backhand on the breakaway to set the seal on the victory (57:54).
To give both teams practice, a penalty shootout took place at the end of the game. Marcinew, Jarod Hilderman and Chase Pearson scored for the Panthers, with Grande making three saves to deny the Blaze.
