Nottingham Panthers won 4-2 on the road at Sheffield Steelers to secure a massive two points in the Challenge Cup to keep alive hopes of qualification for the knockout stages.
Panthers continued to be without injured forwards Matt Alfaro and Chase Pearson. Kevin Carr started between the pipes with Jason Grande as back-up.
Doherty scores first-period equaliser
After Brendan Harris won the face-off, Didrik Henbrant had a shot saved within just four seconds and Matt Marcinew also went close as Panthers dominated the opening stages.
Sheffield grew into the game and went ahead when Robert Dowd converted an odd-man rush (15:31) and moments later, Carr make a huge save to deny Cole Shudra on the breakaway.
Panthers equalised when Tim Doherty stole the puck before receiving the pass from Mitch Fossier to beat Eamon McAdam at his near-post (18:45).
Volcan puts Panthers ahead at second intermission
Sheffield defenceman Kevin Tansey - playing as a forward on the fourth line - had his backhand shot saved by Carr as Steelers made a strong start to the second session.
Nolan Volcan hit the side-netting and Marcinew shot just wide, before Harris slipped the puck inside for Volcan to put Panthers ahead (35:43).
Panthers seal win with goals by Noël and Garát
Matt Spencer's perfect cross-ice pass set-up David Noël who beat McAdam with a deflected shot from the left-circle (42:41), while the second assist on the goal was for Marcinew who stretched his point-streak to eight games.
Carr produced a superb glove save to deny Evan Jasper before Brien Diffley's deflected shot from the slot made it a one-goal game.
Fossier hit the pipes with just under four minutes remaining and after a period of intense pressure, Zsombor Garát buried the puck past McAdam from the slot to secure the two points (57:56).

Panthers are next at home this Sunday (12th October) against Cardiff Devils in the Elite League (16:00).
