Nottingham Panthers captain Matt Alfaro will be out of action for an extended period of time with a lower body injury.

The Panthers forward sustained the injury in the second period of Sunday's game on the road at Guildford Flames.

The Park Hospital fast-tracked Alfaro for a scan which revealed the extent of his injury and he has since met with a specialist this week to discuss his recovery.

Panthers CEO, Omar Pacha, said: "It's very likely Alfy could be out for the rest of the season but he will now work with our medical team in his recovery.

"He will meet with the specialist again in the month to assess his progress which will determine the exact timeline of his return.

"The signing deadline has now passed but we signed extra players in the season which will allow us to cover all bases and we are confident in this roster to push us forward."
