The Midland Filtration sponsored Continental Cup Final got under way in Nottingham on Wednesday afternoon as Herning beat Angers 4-1 in the opening game of the tournament.

Two sets of passionate supporters lit-up the atmosphere with a wall of sound as fans from Denmark and France brought a real European flavour to the Motorpoint Arena.

Around 200 supporters from Herning all wore viking helemts to add to the occasion.

Former Panthers Head Coach Jonathan Paredes stood on the home bench once again as he took charge of Angers.

Jonathan Charbonneau put Angers ahead from the slot early in the second period (21:37), before Josh Prokop scored at the backdoor to bring Herning level (28:28).

Herning went in-front with a pair of powerplay goals as Nick Pastujov scored from the left-circle (32:11) and Mathias Bau buried a one-timer from the right-circle (37:33).

Joachim Linnet's deflected shot put Herning 4-1 ahead (49:28) to seal an opening-day victory
