DIABETES UK NAMED AS PANTHERS CHARITY OF THE YEAR

Nottingham Panthers are proud to announce that Diabetes UK has been named as our Charity of the Year for the 2026/27 season.

Diabetes UK's vision is a world where diabetes can do no harm. They constantly campaign for better care, give support in times of need and fund ground-breaking research into new treatments and a cure.

There are an estimated six million people living with diabetes in the UK, with over 357,000 people recorded to be living with diabetes in the East Midlands in 2024/25.

The charity is close to the club's heart too. Last season, Tim Doherty hosted a Diabetes Community Event after our game with Fife Flyers in March. Tim has type 1 diabetes and wanted to share his experiences to help other people.

"It's fantastic that we can support Diabetes UK throughout the season," said Doherty. "As people will know, it's a charity that means a lot to me.

"It's so important to get the message out that people are not alone and Diabetes UK does just that.

"Millions of people around the world have diabetes and I am keen to share my experiences of managing diabetes.

"I was able to meet a pro hockey player when I was first diagnosed with diabetes and it inspired me that diabetes can’t hold me back from anything."

Charlotte Clarke, Community Fundraising Manager for the Midlands and East for Diabetes UK, said: “We are incredibly proud to have been chosen as the Nottingham Panthers’ Charity of the Year.

“This is an amazing opportunity not only to raise vital funds for life-changing research and support for people living with diabetes across the East Midlands, but also to increase awareness in Nottingham and beyond.
