DOHERTY RECEIVES ONE-MATCH SUSPENSION
Forward Tim Doherty has received a one-match suspension and fine from the Elite League Department of Player Safety for High-Sticking.
The ban and fine relates to an incident in the Challenge Cup game on the road at Coventry Blaze on Sunday 18th October 2026.
The Department of Player Safety's statement reads: "On Sunday night in Coventry, Panthers forward #17 Tim Doherty was assessed a two-minute minor penalty for High-Sticking.
"As the play moves around the back of the net in the Blaze defensive zone, Doherty in control of the puck is being pursued by Blaze defenceman Andrew Neilson. As the play comes to the halfwall, Doherty passes the puck to a team-mate on the point.
"At this point, Neilson uses his stick to deliver a soft check to the hip/rib area of the Panthers forward. Doherty, in retaliation, deliberately swings his stick at Neilson striking him in the head. This is High-Sticking.
"It is important to note that this is not a reckless or careless use of the stick, rather it is a retaliatory stick swing that strikes an opponent at a dangerous height This is also not a situation where a player loses control of his stick or where an off balance player is careless in an attempt to steady himself.
"Doherty is in full control of his stick and his own body at all times during this play and intentionally swings his stick at a dangerous height and force to warrant supplemental discipline."
