Nottingham Panthers have signed exciting young forward Ben Corbeil for the 2026-27 season.

The 25-year-old - from Quebec in Canada - arrives at the Motorpoint Arena as a second-year pro after a stellar college and university career.

His first pro season last year saw him ice for HC Innsbruck of Austria in the ICE Hockey League where he scored 16 goals and added 12 assists for 28 points. Corbeil ended the season with German DEL2 side Eispiraten Crimmitschau.

He played major junior hockey in the QMJHL, icing for Drummondville Voltigeurs before moving to Blainville-Boisbriand Armada where he was coached by former Panthers forward Bruce Richardson.

Corbeil joined Baie-Comeau Drakkar for the 2021/22 season and was named Alternate Captain, going on to lead the team in points (68), assists (34), as well as being the second-highest goalscorer (34).

The forward followed that with three years at the prestigious University of New Brunswick in USports and scored 91 points - 38 goals and 53 assists - in 87 regular-season matches.

He was part of back-to-back playoff titles for New Brunswick, starting with success over the University of Moncton in the 2023-24 season. The two sides also met in the 2024-25 final with Corbeil scoring twice in the championship-clinching 3-2 victory.

Corbeil said: "Winning two championships in three seasons at the University of New Brunswick was amazing and we had an undefeated season in my second year, 43 victories and zero losses. It has been nice to win early in my career and to have that experience."

Panthers Head Coach, Danny Stewart, said: "Ben ticks a lot of boxes for us. He a right-handed guy that shoots the puck well. He can play all positions up-front and he’s a workhorse up and down the ice.

"He combines physicality and skill with his game. We believe he will be a big boost for us in several areas. He had great numbers in university at a prestigious school and is coming off a very productive first season in a very good league. We feel that will translate very well here."

In Janury 2025 he was part of Canada's gold medal-winning team at the Winter World University Games in Turin, Italy as he scored six points in seven matches.

"Having the chance to wear the famous Canada jersey was really special," said Corbeil. "It was fun and we beat the USA which was really nice.

"I'm a fast skater and I like to play physical. Every night I show up and give my best. I talked with Omar (Pacha) about the team, the city and the fans. I have seen (videos of) the arena which looks amazing and the fans sound electric.

"I am coming to Nottingham ready to win and I want to win."
