Nottingham Panthers began the Challenge Cup campaign with a dramatic 4-3 victory over Manchester Storm at the Motorpoint Arena on Saturday.
Miikka Pitkänen scored the first goal of the season and Ben Corbeil netted twice as the two sides were tied at three in regulation-time.
After no goals in overtime, Tim Doherty netted in the shootout and Mat Robson saved all five of Storm's efforts.
