With last season's playoff championship success still fresh in the mind, the 2025-26 journey begins for the Nottingham Panthers on Saturday
Who better to kick-off the regular-season than Cardiff Devils who visit the Motorpoint Arena in the Challenge Cup this Saturday (13th September - 19:00 face-off).
The game is sponsored by Switch Up and another large Saturday night crowd is expected on Lower Parliament Street, so you are urged to secure your seats asap!
It brings back memories of last season's playoff success which saw Panthers beat the Devils 4-3 in second overtime in the most dramatic final ever seen in the 25-year history of the Motorpoint Arena.
Panthers won four out of five pre-season matches with victories at home over Concordia Stingers (5-4), Amiens (6-0) and Coventry Blaze (4-1).
There was also a 3-2 victory on the road at Manchester Storm and the only defeat was the 3-0 reverse in Cardiff last Friday.
Leading the way in pre-season were four players on six points; Ross Armour (4+2), Tim Doherty (3+3), Didrik Henbrant (1+5) and Bryan Lemos (1+5).
The Devils have had a mixed bag of pre-season results which began with two successive 5-1 victories over French side Rapaces De Gap.
Cardiff were beaten 3-2 in Wales by Concordia which was followed by a 4-3 defeat at Sheffield (overtime) and a 3-2 home loss to the Steelers (penalty shots) the next day.
After beating the Panthers, Paul Thompson's side completed pre-season with a 3-1 victory on the road at Guildford Flames.
There's five former Panthers on Cardiff's roster this season - Evan Mosey, Brett Perlini, Mark Richardson and last year's playoff champion Kristoff Kontos, as well as Ben Bowns who helped us win the Elite Series in 2021.
