The Nottingham Panthers were beaten 4-3 by Sheffield Steelers after overtime in a thrilling Viaplay Elite League game at the Motorpoint Arena.

Peyton Jones got the start between the pipes with Alex Dubeau as back-up, while Archie Hazeldine was icing for Leeds Knights.

Hammond scores for Panthers but Steelers lead at first intermission
Steelers took the lead when Marc-Olivier Vallerand raced down the left-wing and went top-shelf near-side (1:51), before Panthers hit back within 53 seconds on a two-on-one break as Mike Hammond's attempted pass deflected in off a Sheffield skate (2:44).

Sheffield went ahead again when Martin Latal cut inside from the left before firing high past Jones (7:18), while Luke Ferrara grazed the top of the crossbar as Panthers pushed for a second equaliser.

Two goals in 22 seconds as Panthers turn game on its head
Panthers turned the game on its head with two goals in 22 seconds as David Levin set-up Albin Lindgren to score through traffic on the powerplay for his first goal for the club (30:36), while Mathieu Gagnon sent Adam Brady down the left-wing and his deflected shot flew into the top corner (30:58).

Moments later, Gagnon shot just wide and Levin went close as Panthers were all over the Steelers before Jones made two huge saves from Vallerand on a Sheffield powerplay.

Ciampini goal sends game to overtime
Jeremy Welsh hit the post early in the third period after a drop-pass from Stephen Anderson.

Steelers equalised in controversial circumstances as Daniel Ciampini bundled the puck into the net with Jones on the floor after a collision. The goal was not given originally, but Steelers used their Coach's Challenge and the officials overturned their decision after video review (50:51).

Jones made two huge saves from Ciampini from close range while at the other end, Brady and Anderson both went close for the Panthers.

Allen scores overtime winner for Steelers
Matt Greenfield made a superb save to deny Welsh after great work from Levin and JC Brassard.

But the Steelers scored the winner moments later as Scott Allen drifted away from the Panthers defence to fire past Jones into the corner (61:26).
