Nottingham Panthers will go into Christmas at the top of the table as the battle intensifies in the Elite League.

There's a three-way tie on 34 points at the top with Panthers, Sheffield Steelers and Cardiff Devils, but Panthers have the tie-breaker thanks to 14 regulation-time wins.

There's two mouthwatering matches on the horizon against the Steelers, with the two sides meeting in Sheffield on Boxing Day and in Nottingham next Saturday (27th December).

The match-up on Lower Parliament Street against the Steelers - which is sponsored by Karen Burgin Ltd - sold-out weeks ago and is the biggest home match of the season so far.

The important games keep on coming with Coventry Blaze visiting Nottingham on New Year's Eve (Wednesday 31st December) at 16:00 and this match has also sold-out.

Panthers then travel to the Skydome in Coventry on New Year's Day (18:00 face-off).

If you haven't got a ticket for the games against Steelers and Blaze at the Motorpoint Arena this festive season, your next chance to see the Panthers in-person at home is the double-header weekend in January.

Panthers host Guildford Flames on Saturday 3rd January (19:00) and Glasgow Clan on Sunday 4th January (17:00).

Demand for tickets for both these games is high so you are urged to secure your seats as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

A short-benched Panthers side - without Mitch Fossier, Brendan Harris, Didrik Henbrant and Jordan Kelsall - were beaten at home by Guildford on Sunday night.

David Noël left the ice in the second period (precaution), but Panthers are hopeful of having some bodies back in the line-up starting with Boxing Day against the Steelers.

Despite the short bench on Sunday, Head Coach Danny Stewart would not accept it as an excuse for the loss.

"Yes, we were short-benched but that wasn't the reason for the defeat," said Stewart. "We just weren't at it and we know we can do better.

"We have to learn from it and move on. We have some big games coming up and it is a perfect way to bounce back."
