Following last night's drama in Sheffield, Nottingham Panthers now turn their attentions to two important Elite League matches this weekend.
Panthers secured a place in the 2026 Challenge Cup final with a dramatic 5-4 aggregate victory over the Steelers which was settled in overtime at the Utilita Arena.
Danny Stewart's side won the first leg 3-0 in Nottingham last week and the two sides were tied at 1-1 in the second leg at the end of the first period last night, as Mikko Juusola's short-handed goal was followed 20 seconds later by Matt Marcinew scoring for the Panthers on the same powerplay.
Robert Dowd - so often a thorn in Panthers' side - scored twice in two minutes with a goal on the powerplay and even-handed in the second period.
A five-on-three powerplay goal early in the third session by Mitchell Balmas ensured the game went to the extra period.
Overtime was perfect for the Panthers with Steelers never touching the puck and when the early goal came it was a thing of beauty.
Brendan Harris protected the puck and cut inside before finding Bryan Lemos on doorstep who went top-shelf to beat Matt Greenfield and secure a breathtaking victory.
Panthers will now face either Belfast Giants or Coventry Blaze in the final next month. The Blaze won the first leg in Coventry 3-2 and the two sides will meet in the second leg in Northern Ireland on 4th March.
