Nottingham Panthers forward Tim Doherty hosted a Diabetes Community Event after Friday night's victory over Fife Flyers.

The event took place in the Bolero Suite at the Motorpoint Arena and was open to anyone diagnosed with diabetes or has been affected by diabetes.

Doherty has Type 1 Diabetes and he explained why he wanted to put on the event.

"This is something I have been thinking about ever since I joined the Panthers," he said.

"I was able to meet a pro hockey player when I was first diagnosed with diabetes and it inspired me that diabetes can’t hold me back from anything.

"Everyone has a different story to tell and I just felt it was important we all got together to share our experiences."

The event was hosted by Panthers commentator Jono Bullard who himself has recently being diagnosed with diabetes.

Jonathan Fenwick, a Paediatric Diabetes Specialist from Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, attended the event and was on hand to answer any questions.

The Paediatric Diabetes Team at Nottingham University Hospitals have launched a fundraiser to provide children and young people with the opportunity to meet others with the same conditions. Click here to donate.
