Nottingham Panthers have a home-and-home series this weekend as they face Midlands rivals Coventry Blaze in the Motorpoint Elite League twice.
Panthers travel to Coventry's Skydome Arena on Saturday (19:00 face-off) and both teams go head-to-head to Nottingham on Sunday (16:00) in what promises to be two intense battles.
The two teams have already faced each other twice this season in the group stages of the Challenge Cup. Panthers won 4-3 at the Motorpoint Arena while the Blaze took the second game 2-1 after a penalty shootout at the Skydome.
In the two games this season, Panthers have three players tied on two points - Ben Corbeil (1+1), Joe Hazeldine (1+1) and Chase Pearson (0+2). For the Blaze, Jaxson Ezman leads the scoring (0+3), with William Boysen (1+1), Artem Buzoverya (1+1) and Márkó Csollák (1+1) all tied on two points.
In the Motorpoint Elite League, Blaze have played six games and sit fourth in the table with 10 points, losing just one game in regulation so far. Their top scorers are Griffin Ness (4+3) and William Boysen (2+5) who both lead the Blaze with seven points each.
Panthers have played four league games, winning two and losing two. Matt Alfaro (1+4) & Miikka Pitkänen (1+4) lead Panthers in scoring with five points each, while Chase Pearson and Ben Corbeil both have three goals each in league play.
This weekend’s games will be the 191st and 192nd competitive meetings between the two sides - the 97th in Nottingham and the 91stin Coventry and there's been four encounters on neutral ice. Nottingham leads the overall series with 102 wins, Coventry have 76 and 12 games have ended in a tie.
Panthers against Blaze games are generally tight, hard-fought affairs - expect this weekend to be no different.
