Nottingham Panthers forward Matt Alfaro has signed a new contract to return to the club for the 2025-26 campaign.

The 28-year-old scored 41 points in 45 regular-season matches in 2024-25 and also contributed 13 points in 12 Challenge Cup games.

He played all four matches in the post-season as Panthers won the playoff title with the stunning 4-3 victory over Cardiff Devils in second overtime in the Grand Final.

The forward's performances during the season saw him win the team's Most Consistent Player of the Year award voted for by the coaches.

Alfaro said: "It was an easy decision. Even in the first half of the year I knew I wanted to come back. Stepping in on day one it was eye-opening and I enjoyed playing and coming to the rink every day.

"The support from the fans exceeded my expectations. I knew it would be good but when we were struggling at the start of the year they were still behind us, so to win at the end for them was very special.

"Everything about the games (Playoff Finals Weekend), the fans in the rink and seeing them in Bolero Square afterwards was just fantastic. To celebrate with team-mates and fans was just great.

"Everyone here is building a winning culture and it comes from every single person in the city - fans, staff, rink staff. Everyone pulled their weight and contributed."

Alfaro underwent a major operation at The Park Hospital on an upper body injury just under a week after the playoff final.

The forward sustained an injury at the end of November and after a discussion with the specialist and working closely with our medical team throughout the year, he opted to delay the surgery until the end of the season

The Panthers would like to thank the staff at The Park Hospital for operating on Alfaro so quickly.

Panthers Head Coach, Danny Stewart, said: "Getting Alfie back is vital for us to push forward next season. As far as a 200-foot player, there aren't many like him at our level.

"His size and strength allows him to be so effective on both sides of the puck and we use him in all situations because of it. He plays the right way every night and competes maybe harder than anyone.

"He played through the pain barrier for a lot of the season and that just underlines how much of a team-first guy he is. It’s a big re-signing for us."
