Nottingham Panthers secured a point in a 3-2 overtime defeat by Sheffield Steelers in the Elite League.

Panthers were at full-strength with Nolan Volcan the healthy scratch. Jason Grande started between the pipes with Luca Sheldon as back-up.

Pearson reduces deficit with late first-period goal
Matt Marcinew had an early chance for the Panthers and at the other end, Grande saved Evan Jasper's shot but was beaten by Mitchell Heard from the slot (04:11).

Ryan Tait fed Jasper to score Sheffield's second (09:50), before Panthers hit back when Pearson tipped in Matt Spencer's shot from right-point (15:40).

No goals in tight second session
Clear-cut chances were limited in the second period but Grande made three big glove saves in succession including one to deny Robert Dowd.

For the Panthers, Marcinew went close on the powerplay and Josh Tetlow's long-range shot was held by Matt Greenfield.

Pearson sends game to overtime
Grande had to come up strong on three occasions as Sheffield started the third period strongly.

Panthers equalised when Pearson's shot towards goal deflected off Brien Diffley and looped over Greenfield (55:29).

Steelers win it in overtime
Grande made an outstanding save to deny Mitchell Balmas early in overtime but could do nothing about the game-winner.

After Grande made the first save, Stephen Harper dived to the rebound to secure Sheffield the extra point.
