Nottingham Panthers are thrilled to announce that forward Tim Doherty has signed a deal to return to the club for the 2026-27 campaign.

The 30-year-old is back at the Motorpoint Arena for a third successive year, having already scored 105 regular-season points (41+64) in 100 matches in his two years with the club so far.

Last season, he led the league with 39 assists and scored 18 goals for 57 points in 53 EIHL games which saw him end the year as Panthers' leading points-scorer.

Leading by example on and off the ice, Doherty was honoured by his team-mates as he was named Players' Player of the Year and also by the coaching staff who selected him as the team's MVP.

Doherty said: "I did think last year was going to be my last year but I have had a lot of time to reflect since getting home.

"I just did not feel like it was over - especially with the way our season ended last year - I just feel there is more to be done. In my first year we won the playoffs and last year we won the Challenge Cup.

"There's still one more thing to be done and that's win the league and I am so highly motivated to do that. I am super fired up.

"My relationship with the fans and the community is a major reason I came back. I don't think there are many clubs like this where players get the support from the fans like we do.

"My heart just said Nottingham and that's why I want to come back. As team, we all just want to win for the club, the city, each other and the fans."

Doherty played a huge part in the double-winning season as Panthers won both the Continental Cup and Challenge Cup to add to the playoff title he won in 2024-25.

In January's Continental Cup success, Doherty scored twice in the 4-0 victory over Katowice and also assisted on Matt Spencer's opening goal in the 4-2 victory over Torpedo in the Gold Medal Game as Panthers secured the famous European trophy for a second time.

Head Coach, Danny Stewart, said: "Getting Tim back after arguably his best season as a pro is a huge boost for us.

"He led the league in assists last year and also brings that ability to score goals. He’s adaptable on whatever line he’s on and can be an elite shooter or passer.

"He was part of our leadership group last season and we will expect Tim to help lead the way next season again."
