Calgary-born forward Matt Alfaro has signed a new deal to return to the Nottingham Panthers for a third successive season.

The 29-year-old, who led the team as captain, scored 34 points (13+21) in 41 regular-season matches in 2025-26.

He helped Panthers win the Continental Cup and assisted on the fourth goal in the Gold Medal Game 4-2 victory of Kazakhstan side Torpedo. Alfaro was also part of the Challenge Cup-winning squad, but sadly missed the final due to injury.

Alfaro joined the club in 2024-25 from Germany, where he played for Ravensburg Towerstars in the DEL2, scoring 14 goals and contributing 22 assists for 36 points in the regular-season.

He added six points in the post-season (3+3) as he helped the Towerstars to the quarter-finals of the playoffs, before losing a thrilling seven-game series to eventual winners Polar Bears Regensburg.

After playing three years of college hockey for the University of Calgary in the USports league, Alfaro turned professional with East Coast Hockey League side Wheeling Nailers in 2020-21.

He made an immediate impact and was named Alternate Captain in 2021-22 and became a top-line centre in the league, scoring 70 points (21+49) in 88 matches.

Alfaro earned multiple call-ups to the highly-rated American Hockey League and secured an AHL contract for the 2022-23 season.

In total, Alfaro has iced in 70 AHL games for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, Manitoba Moose and Abbotsford Canucks.
